Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I just want to ask about what could possibly be the main cause of the sudden and sharp pain I feel in the left side of my ribcage in the front area. Not in the back but on the lower left in front. It just happens out of nowhere without warning when I breath in and the pain could leave me curling and not breathing at all. This would last for a short time but other times, longer. What do you think is the possible problem.

General & Family Physician, Dr. Nishad BN's Response
Hi Thank you for asking HCM I have gone through your query. Your problem can be most likely Costochondritis . Pain while palpation on rib area and while breathing is characteristic. But it is better to rule out cardiac cause of chest pain by doing an ECG and to rule out lung problems by doing a chest X ray to be on safe side. For costochondritis you can apply NSAID gels like Ketoprofen or Diclofenac locally on affected area. Hope this may help you. Let me know if anything not clear. Thanks.
