Suggest Treatment For Sharp Pain In The Back While On Ibuprofen

My 96 year old dad has been complaining of sharp pain in his left back side just at the belt line. It hurts when he moves... but not while stationary or not to the touch. It has been bothering him for almost a week and may be getting worse. Ibuprofen and heat help... but I am concerned about too many ibuprofen and it s not getting better if it were just a muscle sprain. Should I take him to his physician tomorrow?

Hello,

Yes if he is still in pain i suggest you take him to his physician. At that age ibuprofen is risky if taken for more than a week. Also it should be taken with an acid preventing pill such as esomeprazole. Safe medications for pain for older people include acitomenophen and weak opiates (eg codeine- will need a laxative with this as it causes constipation)

Kind Regards
