Suggest Treatment For Severe Sunburn On The Shoulder And Back

I,unexpectedly spent 3 hours outside in a tank top last week. My back and shoulders were sunburned badly. Parts of the burn have peeled, but there s a large area that s scaly/crunchy to the touch and has patches of brown discoloration. The pain has actually subsided fairly well, and ample aloe vera helps with any itching and burning. But the skin looks so damaged, and is very tight with a tingling sensation. Is this just a bad burn that will heal with time, or is it time to see a doctor?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello and welcome to Ask A Doctor services.
I have read your query and here is my advise.

* As it is a severe burn, it can be possibly second degree burns likely.

My guidelines for best recovery

- apply silver sulfadiazine ointment thin layer 4-5 times a day
- tablet ibuprofen ( 400 mg ) after meals 3 times a day if no history of
drug sensitivity
- get prescription of antibiotics with your doc if he or she decides so
that it is necessary for faster recovery and prevention of secondary
bacterial infection

Thank you.
Regards.
