Suggest Treatment For Severe Sore Throat, Shortness Of Breath And Headache

I am on day 6 of having a bad upper respiratory infection. Severe sore throat with coughing up mucous - discoloration yellow-green. Shortness of breath, it came on fast last Friday. Headache, sore throat, fever, chills, body aches and pains, cough and diarrhea. The mucous is so thick and it hurts so bad to cough it up. Hot liquids help, as well as cold medicine, but I can t sleep and it s uncomfortable laying down trying to catch my breath. I m also type 2 diabetes. At what point should i seak medical attention? I am pretty sure it is influenza with a complication of bronchitis.

Hi,

Though you are sure it to be influenza and bronchitis, it's sufficiently severe to consult a doctor earliest. It is important especially as you are diabetic. It needs to be found / excluded earliest start with suitable antibiotics as per expert advise.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Vasudha Jayant Athavale, General & Family Physician
