Suggest Treatment For Severe Pneumonia

i have severe Pneumonia in one lung. I picked it up in the Dominican Republic. I am on antibiotics for 4 days already and I have improved virtually nothing. Should I not have some improvement already? So much trouble breathing Doctors did chest xray and blood test. I assume they found the correct strain...so they could give me the proper antibiotics...?? I am healthy strong and fit and never had this. Levi

Thanks for your question on HCM.

I can understand your situation and problem.

If you still have no improvement even after taking 4days course of antibiotics.

This suggest that antibiotic is not working,

In my opinion you should,

1. Get done repeat chest x ray
2. Sputum culture and sensitivity.

Repeat chest x ray is needed to know whether pneumonia is worsening or not.

And treatment of pneumonia should be guided on the basis of causative organism.

So, we need to first isolate the causative organism. So, get done sputum culture and sensitivity to isolate the causative organism and guiding appropriate antibiotic treatment.

Haphazard use of antibiotics should be avoided as it actually delays the recovery and increases the risk of drug resistance.

So, consult pulmonologist and discuss all these and start appropriate antibiotic according to sensitivity report.
