Suggest Treatment For Severe Pain While Swallowing

Hi my 4 year old accidentally kicked me very hard in the throat. It is very painful and I m having trouble swallowing. My voice has completely gone. My breath is slightly affected. It seems to be getting more painful and harder to swallow. Should I got to ER or just put ice on it?

Hi Dear ,

Welcome to HCM,

As per your query you have severe pain while swallowing . Well there can be many reason for symptoms you mention in query like sore throat ( strep throat or viral infection ) , esophagitis, tonsillitis, pharyngitis , acid reflux or muscle relaxant . I would suggest you to do warm saline gargles several times a day , take ibuprofen or acetaminophen for pain and consult ENT specialist for proper examination of the condition . Doctor may order throat swab test , viral culture test and blood test . Doctor may prescribe antibiotics along with decongestant and expectorant . Doctor may also refer you to gastroenterologist if he/she find problem to be related with acid reflux . For now eat light meals , take soft or liquid diet and avoid spicy and acidic food .

Hope your concern has been resolved.
