Suggest Treatment For Severe Pain And Insomnia

I had a spinal fusion, decompression and a laminectomy on August 23rd. I am still in alot of pain in the lower lumbar region and in my left leg from toes to thighs. I am taking oxycontin (3o mg @ 8 hrs), oxycodone (10 - 20 mg @ 3-4 hours) and robaxin (750 mg @ 6 hrs). I also have been taking lunesta for years and recently prescribed elavil (50 mg) for insomnia and nerve pain. I still go nights without sleeping, I have major panic attacks and afraid to take the medicine as I live alone. Do you know if any of these meds case panic attacks? I have looked them up and cannot readily see they create panic attacks. I do take Ativan when needed but have been very sparing with all the medicines above. I also have not been taking the Elavil because again I am afraid of the amount of meds I am taking. One night I took minimum meds and was in terrible pain the next day ... ALL day and night. Can you help me. I am 68 years old.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

As per your history, it may be due nerve compression.

For pain you can take tablet acetaminophen. You may require MRI lumbar spine, nerve conduction studies after consultation

You may require tablet Pregabalin after consultation. For insomnia you can take tablet clonazepam after consultation.

Take proper rest. Avoid forward bending and squatting position. Do regular physical therapy.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Shyam B. Kale, General & Family Physician
