Suggest Treatment For Severe Itchiness And Rashes On The Legs

I have a rash that started on my legs. Raised little bumps. Dermatologist said he thought it was licus planus (sp?). Treated with steroid cream and it started to go away. Then came back. Took me off cream gave me prednisone for 12 days. Went away of bit but came back. Did biopsy and blood work found nothing. Stays it now looks like drug reaction but I am only taking birth control, multivitamin and vitamin d3. Have taken before. Rash is now lacy flat and more of a discoloration...not raised. It gets very hot and begins to itch at night but can be cooled by taking off covers and putting on lotion. Spreading to arms and torso. They gave me shot of prednisone and on another 12 days of pills now. Started 2 days ago. When hot it has some purple blotches to it. Very frustrated!

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have symptoms of severe itchiness and rashes on the legs which seems to be due to contact dermatitis, allergic reaction, psoriasis, skin infection, and fungal infection. Need not to worry. I would suggest you to keep your skin clean and dry , protect it from sun , apply only petroleum jelly and take antihistamine like benadryl twice a day. If condition doesn't get well then consult dermatologist for proper examination. Doctor may order certain test like skin patch test , blood test , allergy test and take history to rule out the side effects of certain drug . Doctor may prescribe immunosuppressants along with anti inflammatory and corticosteroid ointment . Doctor may also prescribe antifungal like fluconazole or anti bacterial like clindamycin. You should avoid touching or pricking your skin with any sharp object.

Hope your concern has been resolved.

Get Well Soon.

Best Wishes,
Dr. Harry Maheshwari
