Suggest Treatment For Severe Heart Burn

I have heartburn all the time even when I take an antacid. I may have eaten 4-6 hours ago. I can be sitting, standing or even walking, I still get heartburn. Worse when I am laying down. I usually feel the burning all the way through to my vertebrae. What do I do. My GP gave me some pills once but the burning became worse so I stopped taking them.

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concern..

As per your complain it seems that you are suffering from acid reflux and the symptoms of heartburn are classically seen in acid reflux..
As you are taking antacids for relief which is a right medication but you also need other medications that will help in relief..
You should consult a Gastroenterologist and get evaluated and he can do a thorough clinical evaluation and also advise you investigations like Upper G.I Endoscopy for confirmation..
In case acid reflux is confirmed as the diagnosis he can advise you Proton pump inhibitors like Omeprazole or Pantoprazole, H2 blockers like Ranitidine, antacids like Milk of magnesia or calcium carbonate, take small portions of food every 2 hours, avoid spicy and large meals, do moderate workout, loose weight if you are overweight, drink plenty of water, sleep with head slightly raised as compared to feet and recline in left lateral position..
Take your dinner atleast 2 hours after sleeping..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
