General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
Thanks for writing to HCM.
Sever hear burn and Gastro Esophageal Reflux Disease (GERD) is caused due to dysfunction of muscle at the bottom of the esophagus.
You need to take following medications to control this condition:
1. Liquid antacids.
2. H2 blockers like famotidine.
3. Proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) like pantoprazole.
Do not lie down after the meal as gravity plays a role in controlling the symptoms. Take small meals at frequent intervals as large meal would put more pressure on esophagus. Avoid fats, onions, chocolate and alcohol in your diet. Reduce weight as excess abdominal fat puts pressure on the stomach.
Hope this finds you to help to overcome your condition.
All the best.
