Suggest Treatment For Severe Head Pain

After I fall asleep, or, short-term, nap, I awaken feeling as if I ve been poisoned. It feels horrible, in my head and down into my chest. After a few minutes the feeling subsides and I m OK. This morning is the third episode I ve had in the past week. I exercise 10-12 hours/week. I am a vegetarian since 1978 and watch my diet closely. Any ideas?

Neurologist 's  Response
Hello,

Your symptoms could be related to a sleep disorder or anxiety. For this reason, I recommend performing a polysomnogram to investigate for a sleep disorder.

Other tests to consider would be:
- A resting ECG
- A chest X ray study and pulmonary function tests
- Thyroid hormone levels

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Aida Quka
