Suggest Treatment For Severe Ear Pain And Yellowish Ear Discharge

I had a fever and sore throat a week ago. Next day I felt it move to my ear. Had really bad ear pain for about 12 hours. Went to urgent care, got put on amox/clav antiobiotics 10 pills twice a day for 5 days. Was also taking ibuprofen. The ear pain went away immediately. It has now been 8 days and my ear has lost hearing all I feel is a muffled sound. I had leakage of clear fluid then brown/yellow for about 3-4 days but it has gone away for the past 3 days. Now I just have a muffled ear that feels full and I can barely hear out of it. My PCP cant see me for another week and then it will be another month before I can get referred to an ENT. What am I going to do? I don t want to go deaf.

Hi.
Thanks for your query.
Noted your history of fever and throat pain followed by the discharge from the ear.
You were given Amoxyclav and were taking Ibuprofen.
Since the blockage and muffling of the ear continues in spite of the stoppage of the discharge, there is definitely a swelling in the ear that has been causing you partial deafness.
I would advise you to continue on the same antibiotics and Ibuprofen, both in the dosages of thrice daily, add on an antihistamine and nasal decongestant.
Request your Doctor or the Doctor in the ER to get this done.
