Suggest Treatment For Severe Depression

I lost my 31 year old son Oct.29 2015. He had a seizure and by the time his wife found him he had been without oxygen for too long . He had very little brain activity. His wife chose to take him off of life support . He has a 3 year old son with a genetic disorder called PMD. She then took my grandson, the only thing I had left of my son and went back to Guam. My son and I were extremely close. I had him at 19 and his Dad didn t want anything to do with him so it was just him and me. He did everything right. School, military where he even worked in DC with NCIS. Married and had the baby. I drive a school bus which only pays after taxes and insurance 460 dollars a month. Where I live jobs are hard to get without degrees and then still hard. I m tired, a piece of my heart is missing, and can t make it financially . I cry every day. A week after his funeral I tripped at work and broke my knee cap in half which left me with receiving 82 dollars a week and having to pay my health insurance which is 241 a month. I am prescribed xanax, soma, gabbing in and ambian. I really don t see the point in trying to keep going. I won t receive a full paycheck until the end of May. I was just released to go back to work today. A LOT of days I just feel like taking all my med and one time, go to sleep and not wake up. I miss by boy so very bad. I have never hurt this bad in my life and I ve been through a lot. And now in order to consult I have to add my email and it is telling me my email address is not valid. Nice!

Hello,

I am sorry for the loss you are suffering from. It is quite understandable how hard it could be on you to lose your son while you two had shared too much in life.

However, life goes on and time heals every wound. Even though you may feel healing is impossible, it is possible, though it may take time and patience. Try to engage yourself in activities that interests you other than job like gardening, reading, listening to music, knitting etc. Make plan with friends to meet and go out. Join a support group that can help you to cope up with the loss. Such groups are available online or can be joined by help of churches, hospital etc. Exercise regularly, eat healthy food and try to sleep well. What has happened cannot be changed, but you can make your routine better. Suicide is never an option, otherwise it would be legal. You have to keep trust in yourself for healing and living a better life.

The medicines you have been prescribed will help you with knee problem along with depression. However, if you feel that you are not getting antidepressant effects of the medicine after 3 weeks, you can contact a charity organization in your area who can help you find a psychiatrist with low cost to prescribe you medicines that can help you to deal with the loss.

I hope this answer helps you. Thank you for choosing HealthcareMagic. Let me know if you have follow up questions.

Best,
Dr. Viraj Shah
