Suggest Treatment For Severe Cramps In Calf Muscles

Hi Doctor, I am a female, aged 28. I used to get nerve pull meaning, a sharp pain in the calf muscle area (backside of lower part) on one leg . I got nerve pulling in the past, when I was tensed or think too much (I get them in the night) or when I walk on a cold floor. Please correct me, if this is called as nerve pull. But , yesterday, I got this sharp pain in the night. I am sure, i was not tensed and I in fact took good long sleep. It usually lasts for less than 60 seconds (Not a accurate time). I recently checked my blood, I have normal HB, thyroid level is 0.04 level more. What are the things to be done by me, so that I don t get this pain.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello! Greetings. Nerve pull, as is called in common language is nothing but SCIATICA i.e., shooting pain in the sciatic nerve which is situated in the thigh. This pain may arise due to stressful conditions and radiate towards the back or thighs. Physiotherapy may certainly help till an extent. A course of 3-4 weeks may help in reducing the frequency of attacks. During an acute attack, complete bed rest along with pain killers may help.
