Hello,

There can be various issues possible as:
- Acute muscle spasm
- Nerve compression in between inter-vertebral disc space
- Inflammation of ligamentum flavum
- Stress or pathological fracture of vertebra(more likely in aged person)

Primary relief with:
- Analgesic spray containing methylsalicylate and linseed oil
- Anti-inflammatory medicines as ibuprofen or diclofenac
- Postural adaptations to avoid sudden bending or weight lifting

Definite care requires:
- A consulting with your primary care
- Discuss the need of an X-ray of spine with or without an MRI

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
