Suggest Treatment For Severe Cough And Pain In Stomach

I have a horrible cough which has caused my chest and stomach muscles to hurt tremendously. Nothing helps me stop coughing. I have had three nose bleeds and there is blood in my phlegm. I had a chest X-ray and it was normal. I ve been on steroids since Thursday. I need some Releif. I now have congestion, pressure in my head, pain in my jaws, runny stuffy nose.

Hello,

The pain in the stomach muscles is probably due to a severe cough. Actually, cough is executed by using the stomach muscles.

So, severe cough already exhausted the stomach muscle and may overuse it so the muscles are paining.

I also suspect there may be some infection. In that case, I may advise you some antibiotics.

I would like to give some diagnostics so that no possibility can get overlooked and some treatments for some relief now. Please do these diagnostics:

1. Complete Blood Test and blood culture
2. Sputum culture
3. Esophagoscopy

I would give some medicines:

1. Levofloxacin: 500 mg orally once a day for 14 days
2. Guaifenesin / Pseudoephedrine, 600 mg-120 mg: 1 tablet orally every 4 hours,Total dose: 4 tablets per 24 hours

Duration: 1 Month

3. Diclofenac potassium immediate-release tablets: 50 mg orally 3 times a day; an initial dose of 100 mg orally followed by 50 mg oral doses may provide better relief.

Duration: 2 weeks

4. Chlorpheniramine / Hydrocodone ,4 mg-5 mg:5 mL orally every 4 to 6 hours as needed

Maximum dose: 20 mL in 24 hours

Duration: 2 weeks

Also, please follow the guidelines: Drink extra fluids to help thin secretions and make them easier to cough up.

Avoid exposure to allergens & irritants. Avoid smoking. Dry, tickling coughs can be relieved by sucking on cough lozenges or hard candy.

For nasal stuffiness, try a saline nasal spray or a neti pot. Increasing humidity in the air helps relieve a cough.

Practice vocal hygiene measures (e.g. adequate hydration, avoiding vocal strain, smoking cessation, reducing alcohol, reducing caffeine intake).

Please post the test results so that a doctor can follow you up. Please complete the comprehensive treatment.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care
