Suggest Treatment For Severe Constipation

I am severely constipated. Have tried two different enemas and go lightly. The doctor told me after one enema and then the go lightly he gave me that there was nothing else they could do and sent me home. That was over a month ago and the pain is getting worse. What do I do?

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain severe constipation that did not relieve with enema also can be due to a number of chronic causes like sudden change in dietary habits, taking a diet that is very low in fibres, chronic dehydration, excess intake of tea and coffee, diseases like Irritable bowel syndrome, Crohn's disease, low thyroid hormone levels or hypothyroidism, weakening of muscles of digestive tract, side effect of medicines, sedentary lifestyle etc..
You should consult a Gastroenterologist and get evaluated and a thorough clinical evaluation and investigations like Colonoscopy, x ray, Barium swallow and blood tests can help in diagnosis and treatment can be planned accordingly..
The first thing that you should do is to start taking a high fibre diet and drink plenty of water..
You can also drink warm water especially in morning..
You should also limit intake of tea, coffee and dairy products..
Add yoghurt in diet as it is a probiotic..
You should also do moderate workout daily and also take walk after meals..
The physician can also advise you to take stool softeners like Docusate..
You can also take fibre supplement like Pysllium or Lactulose..
Laxatives like Polyethylene glycol can be taken..
You can also be advised Prescription drugs like Lubiprostone and Linclotide..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
