Suggest Treatment For Severe Constipation While Having Vitamin-D Deficiency

I do not know what my body is lacking. I have thought of taking magnesium for many reasons...one being constipation. Labs have previously shown that I was low in VitD3. Took script. in early 2014 ...I believe it was 50,000 IU....not sure of how often. I was again found deficient in Vit D and this doc. told me to take Vit D 1000 mg per day. I stay out of the sun for other health reasons. Also, not sure if I need to take L-Tyrosine because my sister, who is one year older than I am has Parkinson s Disease. Hope not too many questions. Thank you...............XXXX

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Constipation for a long time should be investigated further. I would advise such a patient the following: Get a colonoscopy and CT scan of abdomen to rule out any cancer, mass, ulcer, stricture and so on. This helps to find out the cause. Also go for stool test for three days, it helps in some cases. Change over to another stool softeners and laxatives to see the one that is most helpful and suitable too. Regular tests of Vitamin D and other vitamins to get corrected by an appropriate supplements is most needed. Get an opinion of a Neurologist for yourself to find out any earliest symptom or sign of Parkinson's disease.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
