I am a 19 year old female and have been experiencing chest pain for a while now. It is a sharp pain that is in my left upper chest and center. I have had EKGs and ultrasound done for my heart just to make sure and the results were normal. It happens throughout the day but seems to get worse at night. It feels like it palpitates and gets tight and feels like a pressure/heavy feeling as well. It will sometimes spread to my shoulder blade. I really just want an answer. It's very uncomfortable and painful. It keeps me up at night and I barely get sleep. I think maybe it could be asthma...Thanks for your help.

General & Family Physician, Dr. Nishad BN's Response
Hi Thank you for asking HCM I have gone through your query. As EKG and echo of heart is fine heart problem is most unlikely. You should have a chest X ray also to rule out any problems associated with lungs also.If that also fine then your problem is most likely costochondritis.Pain while palpating the rib area is characteristic. For such case in my patients i treat with anti inflammatory gels like diclofenac or nimusulide for local application.I also advise the tablets of same if the pain is more.If no improvement even after this then i recommend local injection of corticosteroids or anesthetics.Hope this may help you. Let me know if you have any further query.
