Suggest Treatment For Severe Abdominal Pain And Heavy Menstruation

Hi Doctor, I am a 19 year old 90 pound female and I have a few questions about my last period and spotting in between. I was a week and a half late and when I finally started my cycle it was extremely heavy and a lot more painful than usual. Being that my periods are usually really heavy and painful I didn t think to read too much into it but I did realize that the blood was much darker and thicker than before. The pain was also unbearable. About a week later I started bleeding again for about five days. The bleeding was similar to a light period but again, very dark blood. I guess what I m wondering is, is it possible that I may have had an early miscarriage?

Hello there, thanks for your query. It is quite possible that it could be early miscarriage as bleeding with or without pain are both the symptoms involved. But it is not possible to tell for sure without having your urine or blood tested for pregnancy. You can do a urine pregnancy test at home and if it is positive, its quite likely that you bled for the second time in order to expel any bits of remaining tissue in the uterus and it will likely settle down on its own once the process is complete. But if it is not pregnancy then you need to see your gynaecologist to fix the cause of your bleeding and treatment. Meanwhile do consider taking iron supplements and nutritious diet to help yourself prevent anemia. Hope this helps. Take care.
