Suggest Treatment For Schizophrenia And Schizoaffective Disorder With Somatic Physical Delusions

Hi, my name is Mignon Johnson I am a mother who has a 24your old son who was diagnosed with schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorder with somatic physical delusions 5 years ago he has been on every medication that there is, he is now on clozapine 400 milligrams which NIH got him started on, he stayed at NIH for 8 months he couldn t continue the research because they had to take him off all his meds and he couldn t continue the research, so they had to put him back on his meds, his somatic delusions is hard for me to understand and him, please help me to understand I thought maybe if he could find someone that has somatic physical delusions just like him maybe he would understand that there are other people out there just like him but right now he doesn t accept the fact that he has schizophrenia or the somatic physical delusions but maybe if he could read about the somatic physical delusion or people that are dealing with the same diagnose maybe it would help him because everything I ve looked up its not what he has, he only goes out when is time to see his psychiatrist or his therapist who comes to him but its hard to get him to do anything else because of his physical delusions please help me help him. my son use to lay in my arms now he just lays on my heart, please help me, Thank you.

Hello thanks for asking from HCM for your health related queries

I can understand your concern. He is 24 years old and have Schizoaffective disorder, Schizophrenia and somatic physical delusions and is on Clozapine. Clozapine is an antipsychotic drug of second generation. The drug is one of best drugs for schizophrenia and it has been found to be useful in even in resistant schizophrenia. As his symptoms are persisting even with medicines so you can call his psychiatrist to add some mood stabiliser for his persisting mood symptoms of Schizoaffective disorder. For his persisting somatic delusions you can ask his psychiatrist for increase in dose of clozapine. ECT or electro convulsive therapy is other option that can prove good for him. This therapy helps to control symptoms in resistant cases. Consult his doctor for these options.
