Suggest Treatment For Scalp, Ears And Neck

I have been taking hydrocodone for the past 3 years. The last 2 months my scalp, ears and neck have been itching quite a bit. In the evening the itching gets worse after I take the hydrocodone. could the hydrocodone be the problem after all this time?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

If the itching was related to the hydrocodone, it would be expected to be more generalized. Medications and food/drinks, because they are ingested and contents should be circulated in the body, would generally affect a wider area of the body in most cases. Your doctor may want to rule out other causes first. You may need to consider if there is anything coming into contact with that particular area of your body, if there has been any change in any chemicals (lotions, soaps etc). If other causes are ruled out then you may need to stop the hydrocodone for a few days to see if this is the cause, if it is itching would decrease within 3 to 4 days.

I hope this helps. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Michelle Gibson James
