Hi, My 6 months 3 weeks old daughter has runny nose, a little cough but no fever till now. Sometimes There is also a little noise while she breathes and she is also passing some mucus through nose.she is taking almost normal feed. As my daughter s ped is out of town for few days, Please suggest some medcine. Are maxtra p oral drops helpful and safe. If yes what is the recommended dosage?
Understanding your concern. As per your query your daughter have symptoms of runny nose and cough in an infant which is due to severe upper respiratory infection and it could be due to sinus infection leading to sinusitis. Sometimes symptoms can also occur due to allergic rhinitis. Keep her in moist environment , avoid dust and avoid cold beverage. Need not to worry. I would suggest you to visit pediatrician once and get it examined. You should get paranasal sinus x-ray done so as to detect level of infection and treatment can be started accordingly. You should give child proper antibiotic course along with anti inflammatory medication after prescription. You should give child nasal saline rinses 3-4 times a day. Apply mist humidifiers in room.
Hope your concern has been resolved.
Get Well Soon.
Best Wishes, Dr. Harry Maheshwari
