Hi, I have been suffering from runny nose for the last 11 months after moving to a new area called Tauranga in New Zealand, I have been to GP s several times and they give me antihistamines and nasal sprays. as long as i use them i have been ok, bt if stop after few weeks it starts again. now it s changed to a blocked nose all the time. The antihistamines doesn t seem to work anymore, only one spray called Otrivin gives me a relief..what should I do..please advice

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain runny nose along with intermittent blockage can be due to causes like Allergic Rhinitis and can occur due to allergic reaction to certain environmental irritants like Pollen, animal danders, dust and at times certain trees and grasses can also be a cause..

I would suggest you to consult an Allergist and get evaluated and a thorough clinical evaluation and investigations like Prick test, Patch test, RAST test and food challenge test can help in diagnosis and treatment can be done accordingly..
Avoiding exposure to allergen once it is ruled out is the best way to avoid symptoms..

You can be advised to continue taking anti allergics and nasal steroid sprays and decongestants..
You can also be instilled an Immunotherapy to reduce the severity and frequency of the symptoms..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
