Suggest Treatment For Ringing In The Ears

Hi,
I have been having ringing in my ears ...almost like I can hear my heartbeat in my ears ...if that makes sense. I had blood tests done a week ago ...everything was good except my D level and my cholesterol was high 273 ...I absolutely freaked out...but I am working on getting that down...my blood pressure runs 122/72 to 135/83 ...high blood pressure and cholesterol do run in our family ...but why the ear stuff? It's driving me crazy ...thank you so much for your time. Dixie

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain it seems that hearbeat type sound in ear is due to a condition known as Tinnitus and can occur due to causes like ear infection, perforated eardrum, excess ear wax accumulation, Eustachian tube dysfunction, Meniere's disease, TMJ disorders, Acoustic Neuroma etc.
As far as blood pressure is concerned it is not very high so it does not seems to be a cause..

I would suggest you to consult an Otolaryngologist and get evaluated and a thorough clinical evaluation and investigations like Audiometry, x Ray MRI can help in diagnosis and treatment can be done accordingly..

Treatment of underlying pathology will help in faster resolution of the symptoms as Tinnitus is not a disease but is always a symptom of some underlying illness..

In case if ringing does not resolve then you can be advised medicines like Tricyclic Anti-depressant like Amitryptiline, anti anxiety medication like Alprazolam, as well as Multivitamin supplements can be advised..
White noise devices can be advised..
You can also be advised Neuromodulation..
Avoid exposure to very loud sounds and also avoid diving, swimming etc..
You can also be advised to reduce stress by doing meditation and breathing exercises..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
