Suggest Treatment For Reflux In Kidney In A Child

My 5 year old daughter just had her 5th VCUG done. Right kidney no more reflux and left kidney down to a 1 from 3-4 when she was a year old. She has been on an antibiotic since she was one years old. They either want to open the ureter (Deflux?) or check again in one year and keep her on the antibiotic with another awful VCUG. My daughter continues to talk about the VCUG test even though she received versed. I wanted her to start kindergarten without having an antibiotic daily. Ultrasound and xray have shown no swelling in the kidneys. What is the best outcome for this problem?

Hi, Thanks for choosing our forum. Your child has definitely improved from the vesico-ureteric reflex grade 3-4 to 1 as you mentioned it. The other kidney is gotten back to normality already. With this improving tendancy, no ultrasound evidence of hydronephrosis and the doctors also suggesting you an option to wait, i think its worthwhile waiting a little more with prophylactic antibiotics alone before you go for any invasive procedures. Don't worry. Things will get better soon. Regards, Dr.Pravin Asir.
