Suggest Treatment For Red Itchy Rash On Skin Near Tattoo Site

I have a two week old tattoo. Last week I had some mosquito bites and tried to avoid itching. This week it now has a red, itchy rash that is pretty warm. I have been moisturizing with a variety of lotions including coconut oil, and have never had a reaction to a beauty product before. I have no allergies.

Hi,

Well, the symptoms of red, itchy rash that is warm at the site of tattoo seems to most probably due to allergy to tattoo ink or tattoo pigment. It can take from days to week and in certain cases even months for the reaction to crop up. The coloring agents added to the ink can be harsh over the skin and can cause irritation. Applying lotions and coconut oil is not enough as you need to treat the area with anti-allergy agents.

You can apply steroid based ointments over the irritated area of the skin to reduce inflammation, itching and rashes. If there is severe itching you can take anti allergy medicine like Levocetrizine or Allegra. You can also apply Benadryl ointment to reduce itching. Applying ice packs over the area can also help in reducing heat and inflammation.

Avoid itching the area as it can cause increase inflammation as well as can cause infection in the area. Keep the area lubricated and moisturized. In case if it still does not improve consult a Physician and get yourself checked.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
