Suggest treatment for recurring ear wax buildup

I have always produced a lot of ear wax. I have a build up in my ear and it is muffling my hearing. I have used over the counter ear drops in the past and they have given me migraine headaches after use. Is there any other, non-office-visit remedy that I could try?

Hi Dear,

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have symptoms of recurring ear wax buildup which seems to be due to middle ear infection and could be otitis media.

Need not to worry. I would suggest you to

- Take ibuprofen and acetaminophen for pain.

- Put wax dissolving ear drops.

- Take proper course of antibiotic and anti-inflammatory drugs.

- Avoid touching and pricking it with any sharp object.

You should consult ENT specialist once for proper diagnosis and to rule out causes like TMJ pain. Doctor may order MRI or CT scan to confirm the diagnosis and start treatment accordingly.

Hope your concern has been resolved.

Best Wishes,
Dr. Harry Maheshwari
