General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

* Management of rectal prolapse depends upon its clinical degree with severity of symptoms.

* The mild to moderate prolapse require

- plenty of liquids
- high fiber diet
- bulk-forming laxatives as Psyllium husk
- avoid straining at stool or heavy weight lifting
- avoid smoking if consuming
- control of blood sugar, cholesterol and body weight to maintain BMI below 23-25.

* Severe or 3rd-degree prolapse requires surgical correction as a curative measure.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
