My friend (48-year old female) is a massage therapist but cannot function because of rashes (1 or 2 the size of a quarter) on her hands. The rash itches but if she scratches is is like shards of glass penetrating my skin. She is in agony giving massages and cancels 1/2 her appointments each week. The problem has existed 2 months. A dermatologist told her to use different lotions/oils and she has tried every option, to no avail. He friends say, it s shingles but the doc said no, something like generic rash and has no other ideas. Do you have any suggestions? Thank you!
According to the history your friend seems to have hand eczema. It can be endogenous due to internal sensitivity of the individual or due to some external factors. She should apply good potency topical steroid like clobetasol propionate along with take a short course of tablet prednisolone and levocetrizine. Along with this ask her to use a good quality moisturizer frequently and liberally. Also ask her to keep her hands as dry as possible, avoid using frequent soaps and detergents, use gloves while washing utensils or clothes and try to find whether she is developing allergy to anything in particular and if yes avoid it.
