My son is 8 years old. He is having cough for the past one week and he was diagonised typhoid. now he has recovered from typhoid, still he is coughing. his esr count is 79mm per half an hour and 120mm per hour. I am worried whether he is having any serious illness. whether it is associated with TB?

HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

ESR is a non specific inflammatory marker. This means that it increases with any type of inflammation or infection in the body.

The increased ESR means that there is some inflammation present but it would not be able to pinpoint the exact source.

If he has a persistent cough, is in an area where TB is prevalent and has not received any immunization against TB, then his doctor will consider this possibility.

I hope this helps
