Suggest Treatment For Photodermatitis Causing Darkening Of Skin Complexion
Hello Doctor,My husband is fair skinned but few months ago his facial complexion suddenly got dark. He has approached many doctors and most of them say it is photodermatitis. He had applied a few cortisone creams inclu hydrocortisone for a while with little improvement. His face has become intolerant to the sun. Kindly advice the possibilities, remedies & any tests that need to be done. Thanks
As per your query your husband has photodermatitis along with skin darkening . In this condition there is abnormal skin reaction to sunlight specially to ultra violet radiation . Photodermatitis occurs when your immune system reacts to UV rays. You may develop a rash, blisters, or scaly patches . There are some factors that can make your skin sensitive to UV rays like having an inherited tendency to photosensitivity and certain medications . I would suggest you to apply cold compresses to affected area and consult dermatologist for proper examination . Doctor may recommend phototherapy to desensitize the skin , may prescribe drugs like azathioprine to suppress the immune system , glucocorticoids and beta carotenes . For now avoid sun exposure , use PABA-free sunscreens that protect against UVA with sun protection factor of 30 and do not use any other skin product .
Hope your concern has been resolved.
