Suggest Treatment For Persistent Sore Throat And Fever

My son developed a rash from the waist down to the tops of his feet...like welps....& this is on the 3rd day after having a sore throat that is inflamed and a low grade fever...idk what it is....need to know what to do @ home....I fig it s viral so antibiotics won t help. I used activated charcoal mixed with warm water topically.....and am treating him w/cold symptoms & sore throat & ibuprofen & Tylenol alternating for the fever. What should I do if it is not better or worse by tomorrow...what can a doctor do...what could it be?

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query persistent persistent sore throat and fever which seems to be due to infection of upper respiratory tract leading to inflammation of tonsils . Upper respiratory tract infection can be caused bacterial or viral . Need not to worry. I would suggest you to start with warm saline gargles and betadine gargles 3-4 times a day. For pain and swelling you should take ibuprofen or acetaminophen as you already taking . Avoid cold, sharp , spicy food product , do warm saline rinses and carbonated beverages. Consult ENT specialist for proper diagnosis and rule out condition like strep throat and viral infection . Doctor may order order throat swab test and viral culture test . Doctor may prescribe antibiotics penicillin or amoxicillin or anti viral drug depending upon the diagnosis along with decongestants and anti inflammatory. Maintain oral hygiene and drink plenty of water.

Hope your concern has been resolved.
