Suggest Treatment For Persistent Eye Infection

Last night when I got rady for bed I noticed the skin from inner corner of left eye to cheekbone was deeply discolored. Aftr removing mascara and making sure all traces or mascara were gone i washed face and realized the skin was bruised and black and blue. Went to an Urgent Care this AM and he said it was an eye infection and prescribed Tobramicin drops. What kind of infection causes this and is it contagious? I am congested. Saw ophthalmologist at Duke Eye Center for normal appt. Thursday and he was looking at eye but just said if anything changes to call him - the bruise did not appear until about 10PM sat.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

The bruise you noted is due to the eye infection. Perhaps you have scratched your eyes.

Continue taking medication as prescribed by your doctor (Tobramycin). Rinse with chamomile tea. Apply alternating cold and warm compresses locally.

Do monitor your blood pressure and record the results.

Do follow up with your eye specialist regularly.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Albana Sejdini,
