Suggest Treatment For Persistent Dry Cough

Hello Doctor. I am an 80 year old female living in Kerala, height of 5 feet, weight 60 kg and I have been having cough for last two months. I have taken treatment under allopathy and Ayurveda however the same is not subsiding. The local doctor says that the Chest and the lungs are clear. There is no regular phlem when I cough ( hardly bring it up once a day and that too very little and it is white in colour) though the sound is very hoarse. I have been currently put on SUDIN tablets for thrice a day and ROXID antibiotic. Please advice. Vasantha

Internal Medicine Specialist 's  Response
Hello,

Have you suffering from allergy? Any history of bronchial asthma?

Possible causes are allergic/irritant cough, cough variant of asthma or tropical pulmonary eosinophilia et cetera. We need x-ray chest, AEC, spirometry.

Avoid cool drinks and freeze water, use water vapour inhalation and salt water gargling thrice a day for five days. Use tablet Montelukast and Levocetirizine, once a day at night for one week.

If symptoms not improved, please consult your physician so that he will examine and treat you accordingly.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Penchila Prasad Kandikattu
