Suggest Treatment For Persistent Diarrhea

My husband has a hard time sleeping at night, has involuntary flexing of his foot while sleeping, wakes with extreme calf or thigh cramps frequently. Of late, maybe 2 months, his urine has been noticeably orange with a different odor. More recently, 3 weeks, he has been having a lot of diarrhea, and today said his stool was orange. We did not have anything orange in the diet recently. Ideas?

Hi,

It seems primary cause might be diarrhoea leading to dehydration and high-orange colored urine and muscle cramps due to hyponatraemia.
Diarrhea could be due to IBS (Irritable bowel syndrome)-dominant diarrhea; pending evaluation take plenty of oral fluids and oral rehydration solution (ORS) to replenish electrolyte losses. Small doses of Loperamide is useful when diarrhea is severe. A course of nonabsorbed oral antibiotic rifaximin won't be out of place. Lack of bile salts can cause orange stool. Also, aluminum hydroxide component of common OTC antacid preparation can turn stools orange.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
