Would Prednisone Or Augmentin Reduce Symptoms Of Hacking, Productive And Persistent Cough?

65 yr old female. Had a cholecystectomy Nov. 21. Think I must have aspirated a tad. Have had, what I think to be bronchitis ever since. Hacking, productive cough. Found meds, in my med box, recently; prednisone 20 mg and a few Augmentin after 3 weeks of this hacking cough. This is helping so much, but wonder which med is actually helping.

Hi,

Actually prednisolone and augmentine (amoxycillin+clauvalanic acid) both are doing very well.

Productive cough may be due to these possibilities, these include:

1. Bronchiectasis, diagnosis can be confirmed by X ray (MRI) chest
2. Allergic bronchitis, usually these develops wheezing sound (rales) with large amount of mucus
3. Tuberculosis, but in your case we can rule out

However at present get in SPUTUM EXAMINATION, BLOOD ans X-RAY. After this consult a primary care physician and get his opinion.
