Since last January I developed a nagging cough - It comes and goes.... I was told it was due to allergies therefore I began a 12 month long allergy shot program howver it still lingers... My lungs seem normal as I can run, etc. Any thoughts?? Rod Walthers Las Vegas, NV 66 years old

Hi,

As per your query you have symptoms of persistent cough which is because of due to upper respiratory infection.

Need not to worry. I would suggest you to
- Start with course of antibiotics such as Azithromycin along with anti-inflammatory medications such as Levocetirizine.
- Take steam inhalation and an expectorant cough syrup such as Phenylephrine, chlorpheniramine.
- Avoid cold beverages.
- Do warm saline gargles 3-4 times a day with lukewarm water.
- Take diet rich in fruits rich in vitamin C as it will boost your immunity.

If symptoms keep on persisting visit Pulmonologist once and get it examined and start proper course of antibiotics.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
