Suggest Treatment For Persistent Cough With Metallic Taste And Phlegm

I have had a very deep cough off and on for 4 months. It produces very little phlegm, which is clear to light yellow in color. The cough was very bad, many times a day. Now I cough very hard for a few minutes a couple of times a day. It started in February and the doctor said it was probably a virus, but he gave me an antibiotic (Avelox) which did not provide any relief. I went back a couple of weeks later when the cough had not cleared up, and he said it probably was a virus in the beginning and now it was allergies. When I cough now, there is a strong metallic taste and a small amount of phlegm. In the last few days, t my chest is tight for short periods and when I breathe deeply, I cough.

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM,

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have persistent cough with metallic taste and phlegm which is due to poor oral hygiene of oral cavity , it could be due to gum disease like gingivitis, periodontists or use of medications such as antibiotics if any you used for sore throat or cough.

The symptoms can also occur due to nerve dysfunction. You can easily get rid of that by visiting dental surgeon once and cleanliness of oral cavity done. Doctor may also perform oral prophylaxis .Take supplements rich in iron. Get a complete hemogram and blood indices done and visit general practitioner if symptoms are not dental related.

Do warm saline rinses several times a day. Take oral re hydration solution for that. Take fruit, juices, lime . Dopmperidone or Enteric coated tablets will be helpful.

Hope your concern has been resolved.
