Suggest Treatment For Persistent Cough And Chronic Asthma

I have had asthma for years. Last year in December, I had an extreme cough that neither my PCP, or pulmonary doctor could figure out. It is not COPD, as per bronchial testing. It lasted 3 months and many treatments and the doctor is still not sure why. Two weeks ago, it started again. No fever. Took Z-pack and am still coughing. Cough is dry, uncontrollable. The rattling noise in my chest is making me crazy and makes feel like I have to cough to catch my breath. Doesn t work. Any ideas to help get rid of the rattle/cough. I do drink lots of water. Never a smoker. No pets or other allergy triggers.

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have symptoms of persistent cough and chronic asthma which is due to lung infection to a greater extent. Need not to worry. I would suggest you to visit pulmonologist once and get it examined. You should get X-ray chest done. Get pulmonary function test done as well to find out extent of infection so that treatment can be planned accordingly. Start treatment after proper examination. Avoid cold liquids, spicy, oily and fried food. Take diet rich in multivitamins. You should gargle with saline water. You should take cough expectorants as well. Apply mist humidifiers in room. Keep sipping warm water and avoid cold carbonated beverages.

Hope your concern has been resolved.

Best Wishes,
