Hi,I am Dr. Subhankar Chakraborty (Gastroenterologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Suggest Treatment For Persistent Constipation And Rectal Pain
my mother is 76 years old and she is having very bad constipation for the past 1 year. She consulted several gasteroentrologists but nothing helps her. currently I have taken her to Asian Institute of Gasteroentrology, Hyderabad, India, and the doc suggested the following meds - pantocid 1 after breakfast Normaxin 3 times daily cremaffin 3 tsps before bed time
He also suggested her an anti-depressant - Fudoc to be taken once in a day
I started the meds yesterday (Indian Standard Time). Early this morning she threw up and she had no motion as usual. And she complains of stomach and rectal pain. Not sure if I should go ahead with the meds today or what? Just confused, tired and kind of hitting the dead end. Please help as early as possible.
I understand your concern. I suggest you to continue the medications. Some advice that I can give to you are:
1) Drink more water. 2) Eat more fiber, especially soluble, non-fermentable fiber. 3) Take Senna, an herbal laxative. 4) Eat probiotic foods or take probiotic supplements.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Dorina Gurabardhi
