Suggest Treatment For Persistent Cold And Sinus Infection
I have had a cold for over a week. No fever. But significant mucous build up (but it s been worse in the past) so I weathering the storm. I have been taking a generic night time cold medicine. This afternoon, I had a weird thing happen. a big amount of mucous came through my tear duct on left eye. I wiped my eye and thought ( I must accidently picked my nose and then rubbed my eyes). I was kind of embarrassed, because I was a big thing of snot . Anyhow, I went to the bathroom and my left eye is real blood shot and mucous was floating in eye. I can see okay. I assume this back up from sinuses. Anyhow, I have never had this happen. Is this a famous first? I am hoping not. Thank you.
Mucous discharge through the eye can be due to cause like a bacterial infection or bacterial conjunctivitis as the most common cause. However, if there is sinus infection then the infection can spread to the tear duct causing eye infection and mucous drainage.
So for a confirmation, it is advisable to consult an ER and get evaluated. In case of bacterial infection due to any cause a course of antibiotics can help in reducing infection. Also, antibiotic eye drops can be advised. If there is sinus infection then along with antibiotic treatment decongestant nasal drops can be advised to ease in drainage.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
