General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi!
Welcome to HCM.
I appreciate your concern for the stool analysis showing the cysts of Entamoeba histolytica despite of taking Flagyl for 10 days.

The medicine Flagyl is effective in killing only the trophozoites of E histolytica hence the parasites are not eradicated because the cyst forms of E histolytica are resistant to Flagyl hence not killed.

There is no need to repeat the dose of Flagyl again.

To kill the cysts of E histolytica, another antibiotic Diloxanide furoate or Iodoquinol should be taken three times daily for 10 days this will ensure the total eradication of the infection.

Hope I could answer your query.

A feed back is appreciated.
