Suggest Treatment For Parotid Gland Swelling And Loss Of Sense Of Taste

I have swollen paratoid glands, loss of taste, general odd feeling thru out my mouth. My tongue is red, and have bouts of soreness. I have sjogrens(diag. in 2009), but this mouth situation has been ongoing since April. Just finishing 2nd round of prednisone, but I can tell it has not cleared up. What would likely be the next or most effective treatment?

Hi...
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns...

As per your complain bilaterally swollen parotid glands can be due to viral infection known as Mumps Parotitis and it is a highly contagious infection and you need to consult an Oral Physician and get evaluated and a thorough clinical check up can help in diagnosis and treatment of the cause..
The loss of taste and red and sore tongue seems to be due to dry mouth which is a classical feature of Sjogren's syndrome and lack of saliva causes damage to taste buds, altered functioning leading to loss or alteration in taste and inflammation of mucous membranes..
You need to take supportive treatment for the soreness of tongue like sucking sugar free chewing gums, taking saliva substitutes like Artificial saliva drops and drink plenty of water.
Suck on ice pops and do cold water rinses..
As the swelling in the parotid glands does not seems to improve there can be a secondary bacterial infection and if it is diagnosed a course of antibiotics will be needed..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
