Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Having fast heart beat, have occasional little cough with it. Take Synthroid and Lipitor which levels were checked earlier this year. Woke up this morning with palpitations which eventually went away. Had them again tonight but did have a Diet Coke and some dark chocolate this evening. Thank you!
You will need to have an ECG to check the heart rhythm and make sure all is well with it. If the ECG comes out normal and TSH check (thyroid check) was normal as well, very likely the palpitations are due to anxiety attack. In this case if the symptoms last more than 2 weeks and you find the symptoms too often you can start an SSRI medication to help with anxiety and sometimes counseling is helpful as well.
I hope this answers your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Antoneta Zotaj, General and Family Physician
