Suggest Treatment For Painless Lump Near The Waist

I am a 57 yr old male in good health but I have recently developed a golf ball size lump that seems to come and go right below the waist line on my right front side. it doesn t hurt but I can certainly feel it there. its been there for about 8-10 days now and sometimes recedes to almost nothing but then comes back.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,
Thank you for your query

I believe you may have an inguinal hernia.

*does it come out when you strain your abdomen (lifting something heavy, coughing, sneezing, laughing hard)?
*does it feel squishy or hard?
*is it painful when it comes out?
*how old are you?
*what is your height and weight?
*any previous surgeries?
*do you have any other medical issues or take any medications?

I recommend :
- a physician /general surgeon consult
-an ultrasound or CT scan of the abdomen (depending on clinical findings)

Based on these we can arrive a time a diagnosis and treatment plan.

If you develop severe abdominal pain, blood in stools, fever, vomiting, please go to the ER right away.

Spontaneously reducing hernias may not always require surgical correction but if the defect in the abdominal wall (through which the hernia occurs) is large then it need to be repaired to prevent serious complications.
Hope this helps.
Please let me know if there is anything else I can help with.
Wish you good health
