Suggest Treatment For Painful Trachea While Breathing

My 20 year old daughter says that her trachea hurts when she breathes. It only hurts inside, no external pain, no pain on palpation. She says it can also hurt when she bends over or jumps around. Any ideas about a possible cause? She has not sustained any injury nor had any recent illness and feels well otherwise.

Thanks for your question on Health Care Magic.
I can understand your daughter's situation and problem.
Pain in trachea on breathing and movement is mostly due to inflammation of trachea (tracheatis).
The most common cause for this is infection. Amongst infection viral infection with Influenza virus is more common.
So she might be having viral tracheatis.
Ask her to drink plenty of fluids orally and keep herself hydrated.
Avoid dust and smoke exposure.
She should start antihistamines, anti inflammatory and painkiller drugs.
Usually recovery is expected in 1-2 weeks time.
If not improving by 2 weeks than better to get done bronchoscopic evaluation to rule out other causes.
Hope I have solved your query.
Wishing good health to your daughter. Thanks.
