Suggest Treatment For Painful Swollen Arm Post Injury

Last week I hit my wrist realy hard.the pain shot up my arm and I had dead arm for about 15 minutes. It was sore the next day but I was fine. The day after that my fingers and were hurting really bad and I kept feeling the need to pop my fingers. I woke up on day three and couldn t make a fist or grasp anything. I could use my thumb and pointer fingers ok but my last three wouldn t budge and when I tried it hurt all the way up my forearm. Eventually I was able to move them but not without pain. I went another day like that and when I woke up on day four it hurt really bad and again couldn t move it with a now swollen and puffy arm. I went to the ER and they took an X-ray while I was waiting but then they got really busy with some wreck and a little boy who flatlined as soon as he got in the door. So after a couple of hours of waiting I just left without seeing the Dr. Now it s day five it still hurts to use but I think I ve gotten use to it. My forarm and bicep are now swollen and not sure what I should do about it.

Orthopaedic Surgeon, Joint Replacement 's  Response
Hello,
Thanks for writing to us.
It might be soft tissue injury or fracture.
Without X-ray, it is difficult to differentiate a fracture from others. I suggest you to consult an orthopaedician nearby for a detailed examination. You may get the X-ray of the area affected under his/her guidance.
In the interim, apply ice packs to the affected area,anti-inflammatory drug like motrin to reduce pain and inflammation. Avoid lifting and rest well.

You can upload the xray so that I can help you in better way.

Hope this helps you. You can directly approach me through my profile http://www.healthcaremagic.com/doctors/dr-saurabh-gupta/64132
