I have a painful and swelled Right elbow. It is all colors - purple, green, red, and others. It is painful when I place it on something. I have seen seen several physicians all of whom seemed not to know what it is. My family physician thinks Cellulitis, but not sure. do you have ideas.......... last year my physician treated me with antibotic and Sterorrids It improved but came back this year around September. Do you have any suggestions ?
Hello and welcome to HCM, Painful swelling on the elbow which changes its colors can be due to cellulitis as suspected by your doctor. Cellulitis is bacterial infection of the skin soft tissues. Cellulitis is usually an aggressive infectious process which erodes away the soft tissue and skin. Treatment of cellulitis consists of broad spectrum antibiotics and debridement of the dead tissue. Thus, you need to consult your doctor for clinical assessment and treatment.
