Suggest Treatment For Painful Bruise On Kneecaps Post Injury

My daughter fell directly onto her knee on Thursday and was kind of complaining on and off about it being painful and she has had trouble putting full pressure on it but she can bend it without too much trouble. It s bruised directly on the kneecap with just a little swelling but she said it hurts even when she s just sitting still with a throbbing type pain even now after 3 days. I ve kept her off of it and started icing it but wondered if it needs further evaluation?

Orthopaedic Surgeon, Joint Replacement 's  Response
Hello,
Thanks for your query.
From description it seems to be soft tissue injury . Bruise might be due to haematoma formation(collection of blood).
You need an x-ray to rule out any bony injury.
I suggest you to consult an orthopaedician nearby for a detailed examination. You may get the X-ray of the area affected under his/her guidance.
Beside icing and elevating it, you can take anti-inflammatory drug like motrin to reduce pain and inflammation. Avoid putting weight and rest well.

I do hope that you have found something helpful and I will be glad to answer any further query.
Take care
